Ask anyone what their biggest expense is and they’ll probably tell you the same thing: mortgage payment or rent.

They’re wrong.

The biggest expense for almost all of us is something we hardly ever consider, but it chips away at our money more than anything else.

We don’t see it, because it’s tucked away, hidden inside almost every bill we pay, and hiding in plain sight when we get money.

Our biggest expenses…

Taxes.

There are the federal and state income taxes, Social Security, Medicare, and unemployment taxes that eat away at our paychecks…the property, water and sewer, phone, gasoline, and sales taxes we pay every day…and things we don’t even realize are taxes, like tolls and parking meters.

All together, taxes can take up nearly 50% of your income. It’s the biggest budget killer out there.

There’s a lot you can do to change that – especially if you do some tax planning all year long, and not just in a mad dash at the end of the year trying to pack deductions in. There are ways to avoid taxes, postpone them, minimize them – and those strategies are not only for the super wealthy.

By including a nod to tax planning every time you make a financial move, you’ll be able to slash your tax bills, and hold on to more of your money every day.

You’ll find dozens of tax-saving tips here, and I’ll be posting more throughout the year. If there are any tax planning topics you’d like to learn more about, let me know in the comments – I’m here for you.
